Can I have a crown without having a root canal first?
Yes. In many cases crowns are placed without needing root canal therapy. Placing a crown over a tooth that is cracked can save the tooth from needing a root canal because it keeps the crack from advancing to the nerve or root of the tooth. If in the future you develop an infection in a tooth that already has a crown on it, the root canal can easily be done through the top of the crown.
